Cathedral Hill operates first train after almost a year of closure for redevelopment and modernisation
Just over 10 months after the decommissioning of Catashall Lane Depot to make way for a totally modernised Multiple Unit Train Care facility, the new development - named Cathedral Hill - celebrated its inaugrial running today. Featuring a lonesome GBRf Class 73 Electro-Diesel operating via DCC control, the unit was driven into the depot to test track alignment.
The event was due to occur over the weekend of 2/3rd August but was delayed due to late installation of switch control equipment which overran until monday morning. Despite the delay however, the event got underway in the early evening and proved a complete success. Testing of the DCC system along with further full commissioning of the complete power supply and depot operation facilities are set to continue in earnest to meet an early to mid September deadline. It is envisaged that the Train Care facility will be in full operation just after the new year in good time for the grand opening ceremony set for May 2009.
