Member Update - 4th August 2008

Cathedral Hill operates first train after almost a year of closure for redevelopment and modernisation

Just over 10 months after the decommissioning of Catashall Lane Depot to make way for a totally modernised Multiple Unit Train Care facility, the new development - named Cathedral Hill - celebrated its inaugrial running today. Featuring a lonesome GBRf Class 73 Electro-Diesel operating via DCC control, the unit was driven into the depot to test track alignment.

The event was due to occur over the weekend of 2/3rd August but was delayed due to late installation of switch control equipment which overran until monday morning. Despite the delay however, the event got underway in the early evening and proved a complete success. Testing of the DCC system along with further full commissioning of the complete power supply and depot operation facilities are set to continue in earnest to meet an early to mid September deadline. It is envisaged that the Train Care facility will be in full operation just after the new year in good time for the grand opening ceremony set for May 2009.

p.s. Adam lost his DCC virginity in less 10minutes using a Bachmann Dynamis, Dapol Class 73 & Lenz Silver Mini Decoder. Yes less than 10 minutes!

Success with the Saturday running afternoon - 11th February 2008

Thanks to Keith Darbon who completed the modification of the Fleischmann joiners, the modular layout was fully operational in 1 hour, a record I believe!! With the new Morley vector handheld controllers in operation we had a very successful afternoons running.
Modules in attendance were: Graham Godfrey, Keith Darbon, Dave Benham, Les Wright and yours truly The Chairman, assistance was provided by Roger Comber, Adam Lucas, Neal Elphick & Peter Davis.

The layout ran well with a few minor problems with the fiddle yard, but generally a very good afternoon was had by all.

Farish 2008 Line up Announced - 30th January 2008

Bachmann have announced its planned 2008 releases for the Graham Farish N-Gauge range.

Highlights include:
Class 108 DMU in Blue and Blue/Grey livery
All new Class 47 in Two Tone Green and BR Blue livery
Hall Class 49xx in GWR Crest and Late BR Crest

HST, 170/2, & 220 DMU's in Arriva Cross Country livery (although the Voyager is still listed and not yet available)
Class 222 DMU in East Midlands livery (although the Meridian is still listed and not yet available)
More Variants of the Pannier Tank/Crab/8F/04/20/37/57/60/66 fleets

Contraversially, but not suprisingly:
101 and 150 DMU's have disappeared and claimed to be 'still on the back bench'
Still no HST Power Cars to match the Mk3's previously available
No intermodal wagons to match the dozen containers being released, despite demos of it at Warley 2007.
